Oxenhope Parish Council consists of eight elected members and a salaried Clerk. Members are elected, unpaid, for a four year term. The next election will be in May 2023. Casual vacancies are filled by election, if requested, or by co-option.
The Parish Council meets monthly, normally at 7.30 p.m.
It is open to all and members of the public are normally invited to speak on any item if they wish to do so, and ‘Public Questions’ are always a specific item on the agenda.
Representation is non-political and matters discussed rarely have a party political slant. Members who find they have a disclosable pecuniary interest (usually financial) in a matter under discussion must declare it and withdraw from the discussion.
The Parish Council is funded by a local tax on residents which is collected with the Council Tax. In addition, Bradford MDC award a Council Tax Support Grant (£1,226 in 2018/19). The local tax, known as the precept, was set at £27.00 per band D property for 2018/19. In 2018/19 the UK average precept was £64.05 at band D.
The precept provided a total income of £27,405 in 2018/19.
In addition to the precept and support grant, the Parish Council has a strong track record of accessing external grant and other funding to support project work.
